Six new rapid response vehicles double pre-hospital emergency care capacity

Emergency medical services have been significantly strengthened with the introduction of six new rapid response vehicles, more than doubling the country’s pre-hospital care capability.

Figures show that over the past year, the 112 Ambulance Service responded to more than 56,500 emergency incidents – the highest number ever recorded. This represents a 12% increase when compared to 2024, reflecting a sustained rise in demand for emergency medical assistance.

The growing volume of emergency calls has underlined the critical need for continued investment in pre-hospital emergency services, which play a vital role in stabilising patients before they reach hospital care.

The six newly introduced vehicles have been added to the existing fleet, bringing the total number of operational rapid response units to 11. The expanded fleet is expected to improve response times and enhance coverage, particularly during peak periods of demand.

The development comes amid increasing pressure on emergency services, highlighting the importance of long-term planning and resource allocation to ensure timely and effective care in life-threatening situations.
