Third domestic violence support hub to open in Mtarfa in January

A third hub for victims of domestic violence and gender-based violence is set to open in Mtarfa in January, with works currently in their final stages. The hub will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, serving the northern region of the country.

The new facility follows the opening of two similar hubs – one in Santa Luċija and another in Rabat, Gozo – as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen support services for victims.

The Imtarfa hub will offer professional assistance and support through trained police officers, specialists and other entities, while providing a safe and private environment where victims can give testimony away from the presence of the aggressor.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà said reports of domestic violence have increased by nearly 70% over the past five years, attributing this rise to improved, more sensitive policing and greater public awareness.
