Kyrgyz woman dies after being rescued from the sea at St George’s Bay

A woman has lost her life following a sea incident at St George’s Bay in St Julian’s earlier today.

Police were informed at around 12.40pm that assistance was required at the popular bay. Upon arriving at the scene, preliminary investigations revealed that two women from Kyrgyzstan, aged 48 and 23, had encountered difficulties while swimming and were pulled out of the water by members of the public who were nearby.

A medical team and members of the Civil Protection Department were called to assist, and both women were taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. Tragically, the 48-year-old woman was later certified dead, while the younger woman is reported to be in a stable condition.

Magistrate Franco Agius has been informed of the case and appointed an inquiry, with several experts assigned to assist. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
