The Sudanese national government has returned to Khartoum in an official ceremony at lend of last week after three years in Port Sudan. The Sudanese national government had to move its operations in Port Sudan after the capital city was taken over by the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces. The Sudanese Armed Forces liberated the capital city in March last year.
In his speech during the return ceremony, Prime Minister Kamil Idris said that the return to the capital was a step forward towards national unity. The Sudanese Armed Forces are currently battling the RSF in Kordofan region and an Al-Jazeera report states that a renewed military offence against the RSF will commence soon.
The RSF are perpetuating a geocide in Darfur and the territories they occupy. UAE funding and arming of the RSF is still ongoing despite requests by the US to stop the arms supplies from UAE to the RSF.
Up to one million people returned to Khartoum following its liberation from the RSF last year. Investigations about the crimes and massacres committed by the RSF are ongoing as up to 15,000 bodies have been discovered in ongoing search and recovery operations. Many Sudanese are still missing with family members unaware of the werebatous of their relatives.
