Two people were seriously injured in separate incidents reported to the police earlier today in Birkirkara and Santa Venera.
In the first incident, a 54-year-old woman from Balzan was injured in a traffic accident that occurred at around 8.15am in Triq in-Naxxar, Birkirkara. Preliminary police investigations found that the woman was struck by a Toyota Passo driven by a 68-year-old man from Santa Venera. She was given medical assistance at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, where she was certified as suffering from serious injuries.
In a separate case, police were informed at around 12.30pm that their assistance was required at a garage in Triq ฤฆal Qormi, Santa Venera. Initial investigations revealed that a 25-year-old Indian national residing in ฤฆal Lija fell approximately one storey into a shaft. A medical team was called to the scene and the man was transported by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was also certified as suffering from serious injuries.
Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
