A 70-year-old woman is fighting for her life following a traffic accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon in Swieqi.
Police were alerted to the incident at around 1:00pm after reports of a collision in Triq Sant’Andrija. Officers who arrived at the scene found that the woman, a resident of Pembroke, had lost control of her Toyota Starlet and crashed into a wall.
Emergency medical personnel were immediately called to assist, and the woman was transported by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. She was later certified as having sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud has been informed of the case and has ordered a magisterial inquiry. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
