Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man’s body in the sea at St George’s Bay, St Julian’s, in the early hours of the morning.
Authorities were alerted at around 1:00am after a body was spotted floating in the water. Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed the discovery of a male corpse. The individual has not yet been identified, as the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the body may have been in the sea for several days.
Magistrate Joseph Mifsud has been informed of the case and has appointed a number of experts to assist with the magisterial inquiry that has been opened. An autopsy is expected to be conducted in the coming hours to determine the exact cause of death.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case are ongoing.
