Alex Agius Saliba to contest the next general election

At least two sources have confirmed with The Maltese Herald that the Labour Party plans to field Alex Agius Saliba as a candidate for the next general elections. The plan is also part of an arrangement agreed between Alex Agius Saliba and the Labour Party leadership when he was nominated for the deputy leadership post.

Alex Agius Saliba is the Deputy-Leader of the Labour Party for Party Affairs and an MEP.

Alex Agius Saliba has been the most high-ranking Labour politician to advocate and champion for Joseph Muscat’s rehabilitation and is effectively leading his faction inside the Labour Party. He was also supportive of Neville Gafa’s return in the Labour Party before Neville Gafa was fired from his job by Prime Minister in under one month. Alex Agius Saliba became one of the most popular Labour Party politicians partially thanks to the support of Joseph Muscat.

Prime Minister Robert Abela has appeased the Joseph Muscat faction in the Labour Party following the results of the last European Parliamentary elections and is planning a general election campaign with Joseph Muscat and his associates onboard the campaign.
