The French President’s sun-glasses: the memes and the model

Yesterday at the World Economic Forum in Davos French President Emmanuel Macron wore a pair of aviator glasses. The image of the French President wearing aviator glasses, which may have rekindled images of the fighter pilots in Top Gun, worked very well with his defiant speech against US threats over Greenland, and the internet was abuzz with memes of the French President.

On January 15th, during his speech to the French armed forces, President Macron revealed a red-eye and said it was nothing serious. He said it was a sign of perseverance. His Office told the press that the President had a burst blood-vessel.

Sunglasses are commonly used to protect the eyes during recovery from irritation or inflammation, and Macronโ€™s particular model suited him well, especially given the tense political context. The model used by the French President was created by Maison Henry Jullien and the model is called Pacific S01.
