20 civilians killed in Ukraine by Russian airstrikes as many Ukrainians remain without power under freezing temperatures

Up to 20 civilians were killed in Ukraine during this weekend as Russia launched hundreds of drones and missiles against Ukrainian civilian targets. Many Ukrainians still remain without electric power with Kyiv, particularly the east bank of the city, afflicted with widespread power cuts. The temperature in Kyiv is currently at minus 11 degrees Celsius.

The Ukrainian government is struggling to bring the power back while under constant bombardment and repairs are ongoing with some areas in Kyiv reporting the return of power but most households remains without electric power. Other cities also remain without power including Chernihv and Odessa.

US journalist Terrell Jermaine Starr published a video describing the cold conditions in a Kyiv apartment. Other videos show apartment blocks covered in ice. Animal shelters have also been hardly hit by the freezing cold with many animals at serious risk.

The situation in Kyiv is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis, yet Russia keeps bombing civilian apartments and civilian infrastructure on a daily basis.

Talks are ongoing between the US delegation of Jared Kushner and Steve Witkioff representing Kremlin’s interests andย  Kyrylo Budanov and Rustem Umerov leading the negotiations from the Ukrainian side.
