Police speed check in Żebbuġ leads to rescue of two puppies found running on busy road

Police officers carried out a routine roadcheck along Triq l-Imdina in Ħaż-Żebbuġ as part of ongoing enforcement efforts against speeding and other traffic violations.

During the operation, which forms part of continuous day-and-night traffic controls, officers identified several vehicles travelling above the permitted speed limit. A number of fines were also issued for various other traffic-related infringements.

While inspections were underway, police noticed two puppies running loose in the middle of the road, placing them in immediate danger. With the assistance of a passing motorist, officers safely removed the puppies from the roadway.

Officials from the Animal Welfare Directorate were called to the scene to assess the situation. Following an inspection, it was confirmed that the puppies were not microchipped. As a result, they were taken into the care of the Animal Welfare Directorate for further handling.

Police have reiterated their commitment to road safety while also ensuring the protection and welfare of animals encountered during their duties.
