Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a body in the waters off Ġnejna Bay.
The authorities were alerted at around 5:30pm on Sunday after reports were received of a body seen floating at sea. Police immediately went to the scene, where they located the remains.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the body is believed to be that of a woman. However, identification has not yet been possible as the remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition. Early findings suggest that the body may have been in the water for several days.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia has been informed of the case and has appointed a number of experts to assist with the magisterial inquiry that has been opened. An autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case are ongoing.
