Yesterday, President Donald Trump’s envoy to Africa and the Arab world, Massad Boulos made a brief stop to Malta before heading to Libya for the Libya Energy and Economic Summit (LEES 2026). Massad Boulos met with the Deputy-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs Ian Borg and discussed mostly issues revolving around Libya.
In Libya, Massad Boulos oversaw several agreements signed by the Libyan government of Tripoli over oil projects with Chevron and ConocoPhilips. The US companies will now re-start operations in Libya. The Libyan government said that it aims to significantly increase oil production in the coming years to generate more revenues. Official figures show that crude oil production in Libya is increasing and last year it rose just around 300,000 barrels short compared to oil production during the Gaddafi era. However when adding unofficial records and trafficked oil, the oil-production figure in Libya is probably much higher and exceeds the levels of the Gaddafi era.
