Two men were arrested in separate police operations in Marsa on Saturday after allegedly being found in possession of drugs intended for trafficking.
The first arrest took place at around 1am, when police officers on routine patrol in the Sqaq il-Ġerrejja area noticed three men behaving suspiciously. Officers carried out a search on one of the individuals, a 30-year-old man residing in Ħal Far, and discovered eight sachets containing a substance suspected to be synthetic cannabis.
Later in the morning, at around 9am, further patrols were conducted in the same locality. Police stopped a number of individuals who were seen loitering in the Belvedere Garden area and acting in a manner that raised suspicion. During checks, officers found one of the men – a 30-year-old resident of Marsa – in possession of a significant amount of cash, prompting further investigation.
A subsequent search on the suspect led to the discovery of additional sachets containing suspected synthetic cannabis. Police later carried out a search at his residence, where they seized more suspected cannabis, approximately €3,000 in cash, and other items believed to be linked to drug trafficking.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia was informed of both cases and appointed a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations remain ongoing.
The two men were expected to be arraigned in court on Sunday at around noon before Magistrate Lara Lanfranco.
