The Armed Forces of Malta have issued a statement saying that their search for the 13-year old girl who was swept away by the sea in Ċirkewwa (South Quay) was suspended without success due to deteriorating weather conditions which have created adverse conditions for first-responders due to strong winds and rough seas. Later on the Civil Protection Department stated that the rescue operation is ongoing.
Yesterday evening, a boy and a girl were swept by the sea in Ċirkewwa. The boy was successfully recovered by the father but the girl remained missing. The individuals concerned are tourists.
Yesterday, the authorities issued a Yellow Warning over bad weather. Seas in Malta can be particularly very dangerous during Winter and people are advised to stay away from the coast during bouts of bad weather at all times. Tourists are often deceived by the seemingly calm seas in Maltese Winters which can turn violent in seconds.
