Hamrun Spartans face Hibernians in 39th BOV Super Cup Final

Hamrun Spartans FC and Hibernians FC will go head to head on Tuesday in the 39th edition of the BOV Super Cup Final, with both sides aiming to secure their first silverware of the season.

It will be the second meeting between the two clubs this campaign, following their league clash in September when Hamrun emerged 2โ€“0 winners. Current league champions and holders Hamrun Spartans will face FA Trophy winners Hibernians in one of the standout fixtures on the Maltese football calendar. The final will be played at the National Stadium on Tuesday 10 February 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

This will mark the first time the two sides meet in a BOV Super Cup Final.

A pre-match press conference was held on Monday at Centenary Hall, with both teams underlining their determination to lift the trophy. Hamrun Spartans were represented by coach Giacomo Modica and captain Henry Bonello, while Hibernians were represented by coach Branko Nisevic and captain Bjorn Kristensen.

Modica said that despite the short turnaround from the previous league fixture, his side is fully prepared for the challenge.

โ€œIn one-off finals like this one, there is no favourite. Our concentration levels are very high, and we are ready to give 100 per cent,โ€ he said.

Hibernians coach Branko Nisevic noted that playing the final midway through the season requires a different approach.

โ€œIn these matches, anything can happen. We have some absentees, but we will field the strongest team available. The most important thing is that the players remain focused and fully committed. Everything is in place for a strong performance,โ€ he said.

Both captains highlighted the added motivation that comes with playing a final. Bonello said that while Hamrun have undergone some changes during the January transfer window, the core of the squad remains intact.

โ€œWe try to win every match, but a final brings extra motivation. Although we have made some changes, the nucleus of the team is the same and our identity is stronger. The new players will integrate well,โ€ he said.

Kristensen said Hiberniansโ€™ early-season momentum was affected by injuries but believes the squad has recovered well.

โ€œWe strengthened the team in January, and in every match and training session our goal is to finish the season strongly,โ€ he said.

The BOV Super Cup Final is being supported by the Office of the Commissioner for Animal Welfare, with a fundraising campaign promoting animal welfare, responsible adoption and long-term support for rescued animals through the Malta Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (MSPCA).

Tickets are available from tickets.mfa.com.mt. Supporters will also be able to vote for the Player of the Match through a public poll.
