70 arrested in Malta during police operations targeting irregular work and residence

Seventy individuals have been arrested in recent days during police operations across Malta targeting irregular residence and employment. According to the Malta Police Force, those detained were found to be residing in the country without the necessary permits and allegedly working without the required licences, in breach of the Immigration Act.

The inspections were carried out on public transport, passenger-carrying vehicles and construction sites in different localities across the country. Police said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to address irregular employment practices.

Authorities reported that the individuals arrested are nationals of Syria, Nigeria, Nepal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Mali, Gambia, Niger, Yemen, Jordan, Pakistan and India.

All those detained are currently being held at a detention centre while arrangements are made for their removal from the country, police said.

The operations were conducted in coordination with Jobsplus and Identitร . Officers from the Detention Services Agency also assisted police during the enforcement actions.

Investigations and related administrative procedures remain ongoing.
