In around 2024, the Malta Business Registry began gating its registry. We have our suspicions on the timing of this operation, but we can’t prove this so let’s move on.
Before gating access to the registry, they removed the ID card numbers from the names of the individuals. The gating was then made via the government IT-agency, MITA, which requires you to log-in to so as to provide your details (including ID Card number).
The service has become increasingly unusable as of lately. I haven’t yet ran a deep check of the site but it definitely tracks your cookies, location and other details, including the device you are using – the gating is meant to collect the details of the users of its registry.
