BOV Amateur League I roundup – Victoria Hotspurs stun leaders Attard

Victoria Hotspurs climbed to third place in the BOV Amateur League I standings after a hard-earned 1-0 win over table-toppers Attard at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday.

The decisive moment arrived in the 77th minute when Rondinely struck the only goal of the match to hand the Gozitan side a precious three points and underline their growing promotion credentials.

Title race tightens

Despite the defeat, Attard remain at the summit on 40 points. However, the Hotspurs have now moved to 35 points, just one behind second-placed Lija Athletic and five adrift of the leaders. Importantly, Victoria Hotspurs still have a game in hand, meaning victory in their outstanding fixture would cut the gap at the top to just two points.

Lija Athletic kept the pressure on league leaders Attard this Saturday, February 21, 2026, after coming from behind to secure a vital 2-1 victory over Mqabba at the Luxol Stadium.
After a tense, goalless first half, Mqabba broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute through Jeremy Busuttil. Lija responded with increased pressure, eventually finding an equaliser in the 69th minute via Gareth Joyce. The match appeared to be heading for a draw until one minute into stoppage time, when Wagner found the net to complete the turnaround and secure three crucial points for the promotion hopefuls.

Narrow Wins for Qormi and Qrendi

At the Sirens Stadium, Qormi got their campaign back on track with a slim 1-0 victory over Xghajra Tornados. The game’s solitary goal arrived in the 22nd minute, courtesy of Jayden Zac Borg, allowing Qormi to maintain their position in the top three.
In the later kick-off at the same venue, Qrendi mirrored that result with a 1-0 win against San Gwann. The deciding moment came just one minute after the restart, when Samuel Saldanha capitalized on a defensive opening to secure the win.

Pembroke Athleta Edge Past Kirkop

Back at the Luxol Stadium, Pembroke Athleta moved up the table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kirkop United. The breakthrough came four minutes into the second half when Weverton clinicaly converted a penalty. The result moves Pembroke level on points with Xghajra Tornados.
