Political party Momentum and NGO Repubblika have requested the Standards Commissioner to investigate the allegations made by Judge Lawrence Mintoff including those about the Paqpaqli case. The focus should be on the Prime Minister’s irregular meetings with the Judiciary – anything else is just a distraction and diversion.
Under no normal circumstances should the Prime Minister or any politician should meet with Members of the Judiciary and hold confidential and private discussions with them. This is just insane.
This is also not a matter limited to parliamentary standards – the Prime Minister’s behaviour is unconstitutional and extremely damaging to the Judiciary. So far, only Judge Lawrence Mintoff has blew the whistle, but this is not enough. Other members of the Judiciary should also be equally transparent and confessional about the meetings they held with the Prime Minister and Joe Giglio.
