Provisional estimates published by the National Statistics Office show that Malta’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached €6.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, an increase of €442.2 million or 7.6% compared to the same quarter of 2024. GDP equally rose by domestic demand and export demand with both at 3.2%.
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, the €442.2 million increase in nominal GDP was the result of a €100.7 million increase in Compensation of employees, a €140.0 million rise in Gross operating surplus and mixed income, and an increase of €201.5 million in Taxes on production and imports less subsidies.
Under the production approach, Gross Value Added (GVA) increased by 3.9% in volume terms. Services (NACE G to U) contributed positively by 4.3 percentage points and Agriculture and fishing (NACE A) by 0.1 percentage points, while Industry (NACE B to F) reduced growth by 0.5 percentage points. Growth in services was driven mainly by Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (19.9%), Information and communication (8.8%), and Transportation and storage (10.4%).
Using the expenditure approach, both domestic demand and external demand contributed 3.2 percentage points each to overall GDP growth. Final consumption expenditure rose by 4.0% in volume terms, reflecting increases of 3.1% in household spending and 6.3% in general government expenditure, while expenditure by NPISHs declined by 3.0%. Gross fixed capital formation edged up by 0.7%. Exports and imports of goods and services increased by 6.1% and 3.9%, respectively.
From the income perspective, the €442.2 million rise in nominal GDP was driven by a €100.7 million increase in compensation of employees, a €140.0 million rise in gross operating surplus and mixed income, and a €201.5 million increase in taxes on production and imports less subsidies.
Gross National Income (GNI) at market prices for the fourth quarter of 2025 was estimated at €5.7 billion, after accounting for cross-border income and taxation flows.
