An 11-month-old baby girl was found deceased at her home in Andre Maurois Road, Saint Julian’s late last night.
The infant’s father reportedly made the tragic discovery at around 11.30pm after returning home from work. Police said he had asked the child’s mother about the baby’s whereabouts and was informed that she was asleep in her bedroom. He then went to check on her and found her unresponsive.
Preliminary indications suggest the child may have died from asphyxiation, possibly after choking on her own vomit. However, investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
An inquiry has been opened and will be led by Magistrate Franco Galea.
This is a developing story.
