Labour MEP Daniel Attard explained his position on Iran in an extensive interview with Newsbook and said that Iranians are the closest they have ever been to toppling the regime. He refused to outright condemn the US and Israeli military intervention on Iran but condemned the indiscriminate bombing against civilians.
Independent reports did indeed confirm that a school in Iran was struck most probably by a US or Israeli airstrike, however the school was incorporated with a military compound. The US Secretary of State said that the US would never deliberately target a school.
Daniel Attard’s position contrasts with that of his colleague, Alex Agius Saliba who is taking a usual partisan “pacifist” view on Iran against war and military intervention. Daniel Attard however reiterated that he agrees with Malta’s neutrality and wants Europe to mediate with diplomatic efforts. Both Daniel Attard and Alex Agius Saliba have been vociferously against Europe’s Re-Arm programme and the European defence industry insisting that public spending increases should not go to defence, but should be spent on social measures.
President Trump vowed to continue the war on Iran as the Islamic regime refused to surrender. Iranians in Europe demonstrated against the regime across various cities and throughout last week.
