Labour MEPs disagree on Iran

There’s a growing and unusual disagreement between Labour Party MEPs Daniel Attard and Alex Agius Saliba on the ongoing Israeli and US war on Iran. While Alex Agius Saliba is invoking his regular position against military intervention, Daniel Attard is not invoking his regular policy.

Daniel Attard had previously voted against the EU Re-Arm programme. He is also the Vice-Chair of the EU Parliamentary Committee on relations with Iran.

While Alex Agius Saliba is focusing on stating his solidarity with his Spanish political allies, Daniel Attard is focusing on the regime’s crimes and track-record. Speaking to the BBC, Daniel Attard said that the Iranian regime can not use principles of sovereignty to defend itself after massacring protestors. However, he also said that the Europe should attempt to de-escalate the situation and use diplomacy to negotiate the ongoing conflict.
