Two children were seriously injured in a shocking attack by their father in the White Rocks area on Saturday evening, with the 12-year-old son in critical condition. Their father, Salvatore Di Prima, remains at large as police continue their urgent search.
Di Prima’s phone was recently recovered over the weekend with messages show that he had suicidal intent – with new details on his children’s injuries being revealed. The 12 year old boy, was allegedly stoned, with severe fractures on his head and pelvis, whilst the 10 year old girl was allegedly suffocated using rope, with rope burn marks along her neck indicate such.
The suspect, 44-year-old Salvatore “Salvo” Di Prima, is originally from Catania, Sicily, and has been living in Malta for several years. He is the estranged father of the two children and reportedly separated from their Maltese mother.
It has also been alleged that family members and relatives of the man have been flown in from Sicily to help with the investigation.
Police have indicated that this is one of the more shocking cases in recent Maltese criminal history and are as such treating it as an attempted murder case with police continuing to appeal to the public for any help regarding the suspect.
