Local Futsal Cup Action: Finalists fecided in Women’s Trophy while Men’s Semi-Finalists emerge

It has been a high-stakes week for local futsal, with the Laferla Futsal Trophy (Men) and the Enemed Trophy Femminili taking center stage. The latest round of fixtures delivered high drama, including penalty shootouts and last-second winners, thinning the field as the hunt for silverware intensifies. 

The semi-finals of the Enemed Trophy Femminili were defined by grit and narrow margins, producing two thrilling encounters that determined the finalists for the May showpiece. 

Zero Sei Futsal punched their ticket to the final with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Luxol St Andrews Futsal. In a match that remained on a knife-edge until the final whistle, Csik emerged as the hero, netting both goals to see her side through. 

The second semi-final was even more dramatic. Swieqi United Futsal found themselves trailing against University of Malta Futsal Women but managed to claw back a 1-1 draw. After a stalemate in extra time, the match moved to a penalty shootout where Swieqi held their nerve to secure the win. 

The men’s quarter-finals provided a showcase of clinical finishing and resilient comebacks, setting the stage for a fascinating semi-final line-up.

The Futsal Selection U17 side continued their impressive run, defeating Zejtun Corinthians Futsal 4-2. They are joined in the final four by the Futsal Selection U19 squad, who displayed immense character to overturn a half-time deficit and beat Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness 3-2. 

Meanwhile, the league’s heavyweights showed their strength. Luxol Futsal, fresh off their Super Cup victory, dominated Birzebbuga Futsal with a commanding 7-1 win. The most intense match of the round saw the University of Malta Futsal edge Marsaskala Futsal 3-2, courtesy of a dramatic winning goal in the literal final seconds of play. 

With two youth selection teams guaranteed a spot in the men’s final and a heavyweight clash between Luxol and UoM on the horizon, the concluding stages of the Laferla Futsal Trophy promise to be unmissable.
