Joseph Cassar elected Secretary General of Maltese Olympic Committee

The Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC) held an Elective General Assembly this evening at its headquarters to appoint a new Secretary General, in line with Clause 11.13 of its statute.

Following the vote, Joseph Cassar was elected Secretary General with 55 votes, securing a clear victory over the other candidates:

  • Sue Mercieca โ€“ 20 votes
  • Jean Claude Micallef โ€“ 20 votes

Cassar will now take on a key leadership role, supporting the MOCโ€™s strategic and administrative functions while working closely with the Executive Board to strengthen the organisationโ€™s role in the development and promotion of sport in Malta.

During the same assembly, members also elected a new Director to fill a vacancy created after David Azzopardi was appointed Deputy President earlier this year.

Daniel Tabone was elected to the position with 50 votes, narrowly ahead of John Vella, who received 45 votes.

The MOC thanked all candidates for their commitment and willingness to contribute to Maltese sport, and also expressed its gratitude to outgoing Secretary General Kevin Azzopardi for his dedication and valuable service during his tenure.
