Bird Life has condemned the recent incident where a bird-trapper was videoed killing a kestrel by stamping it with its foot. The gruesome and violent attack took place in Rabat, Gozo.
This senseless act could have been avoided if we had a decent government that told the truth and didn’t engage in fraud and corruption. Bird-trapping is illegal in the EU but it is being allowed in Malta on the pretense of scientific research. The people trapping birds in Malta are not scientists and those who practice it do so on the pretense of “tradition”. To support this voting-base, Labour has defined itself as “a protector of Maltese traditions”.
Even beating up our wives and children was a tradition but we don’t do it any longer because we have become better. Progress in society would require telling the truth and the truth is that trapping birds is senseless and stupid and those who do it are doing it just for fun – this is a sociopathic tendency in our society conducted mainly by individuals who have anti-social tendencies. It’s not normal and it’s not enjoyable.
On the other hand, creating parks and reserves for birds is progressive, beautiful and creates value. It just takes a change of mindset to turn our country into the great dream we wish it to be.

The Malta Rangers Unit is also petitioning Parliament to open an Environment Police Unit in Gozo.
