Here below you may find the document the Deborah Schembri signed as Parliamentary Secretary to hand out natural parks to the Maltese hunting community. The Aħrax tal-Mellieħa and the Miżieb were eventually handed back over to the public after environmental activists challenged this highly irregular gift in Court.
Environmental organisations criticised the irregular concession of public land, particularly given the ecological importance of the site and argued that it prioritised private hunting interests over public access and conservation. Following sustained pressure, the area was ultimately reclaimed and opened to the general public, reversing what many had described as an unjustified transfer of a national natural asset.
Labour will continue to extend Malta’s bad habits, the impunity for crimes connected with politicians and the looting of public resources for private interests. A change in mindset is desperately needed.
