We are currently gathering information from various sources about the the biggest story in the Maltese press today involving Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo. Yesterday, in a show on Rai3 called Lo stato delle Cose, Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo was accused of renting his Qala’ property to Totò Riina in the 1980s.
We are very sorry to be anti-climatic but there is no evidence that Totò Riina ever left Sicily throughout his life, even when he was the most wanted man in Italy. There is barely any evidence he has ever left Sicily at all. It is also a bit unusual and unlikely that one of the most powerful men in the criminal world in Europe, whose actions even extended to the USA, would, after spending all of his life in the same village, choose to locate himself in a small village on a small neighbouring island, where he could be easily identified, and has limited access to his resources, including his own entourage which he needs for his own protection and criminal operations.
I’m sorry but the idea doesn’t sound feasible at all. I am not saying it is impossible, but is is highly unlikely.
On the other hand, concocting a rumour that a property was used by Totò Riina, definitely adds value to the property and this is were many are probably being fooled.
Anton Refalo is a very corrupt Minister and rumours, myths and legends should not serve as a distraction to his actual cases of corruption and literal crime.
