NGOs and the Msida local council are opposing a PA-greenlight pedestrian bridge in Msida, right at the infamous Junior College bus-stop. The pedestrian bridge is not being built for pedestrians, but for cars and to allow the free-flow of vehicles without any traffic-light stops.
The zebra crossing and the traffic lights will be replaced with the bridge. The Msida Local Council is arguing that this will not improve the safety of residents and will add mobility problems since people have to climb stairs (or use a lift) to use the bridge and cross the road.
The bridge is similar in concept and aims to the underground crossing in front of Bieb tal-Bombi and the bridge in Aldo Moro road. The project prioritises cars and vehicles as opposed to pedestrians: an infrastructure policy that has been consistent across the years and under different government administrations.
