Among all the political parties, including the political party Momentum, ADPD – The Green Party is the only party in favour of the decriminalisation of abortion. Momentum, the new political party competing against ADPD for the third-party space it has traditionally occupied, is led by Arnold Cassola, who is firmly opposed to the decriminalisation of abortion in Malta.
One of Momentum’s political candidates, Pierre Schembri Wismayer, is also known for publicly making sexist comments on women’s issues.
The Labour Party has already stated that it is against the decriminalisation of abortion, with the Prime Minister taking the bizarre position of saying he would pardon women sent to prison by the courts over abortions.
The Nationalist Party has traditionally opposed the decriminalisation of abortion, and its new leader, Alex Borg, has retained the party’s long-standing stance.
