Birżebbuġa St Peter’s completed a remarkable season by winning the BOV Challenge Cup, defeating Melita 3–0 in the final at the National Stadium.
Fresh from securing promotion to the Malta Premier League for the first time in their history, Birżebbuġa St Peter’s added another major milestone by lifting the trophy, capping off a historic campaign for the club.
The final began with both sides showing intent, with Melita creating the better early chances. However, Birżebbuġa gradually grew into the game and broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Alex Bruno De Souza Silva converted from the penalty spot.
Melita pushed for an equaliser before the break but were repeatedly denied by a disciplined Birżebbuġa defence. After the restart, Melita continued to apply pressure, but Birżebbuġa proved clinical on the counter-attack.
Paul Lapira doubled the lead with a well-taken goal, before Zachary Cassar added a third shortly after to effectively seal the contest.
Birżebbuġa comfortably saw out the closing stages, with De Souza Silva’s standout performance earning him the BOV Player of the Match award.
The BOV Challenge Cup, introduced in 2025, forms part of the ongoing collaboration between Bank of Valletta and the Malta Football Association, aimed at supporting the development of football across all levels.
Following the match, the trophy was presented by Charles Azzopardi, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Bank of Valletta, together with Matthew Paris.
