PN unveils Electoral Manifesto built on “A Fresh Start” for Malta and Gozo

Alex Borg has described the Partit Nazzjonalista electoral manifesto as a “contract with the people” aimed at delivering “A Fresh Start” for Malta and Gozo ahead of the general election on May 30.

Addressing the party’s Extraordinary General Council, during which councillors formally approved the manifesto, Borg said the programme was designed not simply as an election document but as a long-term plan focused on families, workers, young people and the country’s future.

The PN’s electoral programme is built around 16 key pillars and includes around 1,000 proposals covering areas such as the economy, taxation, health, education, infrastructure, Gozo, governance, tourism, the environment and social policy.

“This is a programme for your lives, your families and the future of your children,” Borg told party delegates. “It is a programme created by the people and aimed at the people.”

Among the main proposals highlighted by the PN leader were tax cuts, lower electricity bills and the removal of succession tax, measures he described as essential to improving quality of life and rewarding hard work.

Borg also pledged major investment in healthcare, including free cancer medicines, new hospitals dedicated to physical and mental health, and stronger preventive care services. In education, the PN is proposing a 25 per cent increase in student stipends, further investment in schools and better support for educators.

On housing, the PN leader said a Nationalist government would assist young people in purchasing their first home through financial support for deposits and the first ten years of home loans.

Infrastructure and mobility also featured prominently in the programme, with Borg promising the immediate implementation of a mass transport project and the completion of its first major line within five years.

He added that elderly people would benefit from free family doctor home visits and an annual increase of €650 to help improve their standard of living.

Borg stressed that Gozo would no longer be treated as an “afterthought”, insisting that a future PN administration would prioritise the island’s needs and development.

Opening the General Council, Mark Anthony Sammut described the manifesto as a vision for a modern Malta and Gozo, presenting the PN as the serious alternative government capable of leading the country in a new direction.

The programme’s coordinator, George Vital Zammit, explained that the proposals were developed following extensive consultation with families, workers, professionals, organisations and different sectors of society. He said the programme aims to address everyday realities through measures focused on economic growth, reduced bureaucracy, stronger healthcare, improved transport and better governance.

PN Secretary General Charles Bonello said the election represented a crucial decision about the country’s future, adding that the party was presenting solutions to challenges facing families, businesses, healthcare, education and communities. He also appealed to undecided voters and former Labour supporters to consider the PN’s vision for change.

Meanwhile, PN Deputy Leader Alex Perici Calascione described the election as “a national moment”, insisting that the manifesto reflects the aspirations and ambitions of people seeking a new direction for Malta and Gozo.
