Malta national rugby union team have announced a 32-man squad for Sundayโs historic Rugby Europe Trophy promotion play-off against Austria national rugby union team at the National Stadium in Taโ Qali.
The encounter will mark a landmark occasion for Maltese rugby as it will be the first time the national rugby team plays at the National Stadium, with promotion to the Rugby Europe Trophy at stake.
The squad blends experienced players with emerging talent as Malta look to seize a unique opportunity to make history on home soil.
Head coach Phil Pretorius has selected a strong group featuring players such as Rhod Apsee, Tom Davey, Alex Hignett, Andrea Borg, Terence Galdes, Sven Camilleri and Ryan Connolly, alongside key names including Joe Greaves, Aidan Micallef, Cody Schmidt, Adam Kelly, Rory OโBrien and Simon Borg.
Also included in the squad are Nicholas Azzopardi, Mark Davey, Luke Watts, Harry Perkins, Joey Walker, Cameron Sultana, Jon Jerome Micallef, George Strickland, Blake Scott, Tom Holloway, Robert Holloway, Kyle Gauci, Jean Scholey, Kane Tippett, Chris Dudman, Brendan Dalton, Philippe Ioffe, Johnny Connoly and Jethro Zammit Randich.
Pretorius will be assisted by assistant coach Liam Scicluna, while Pauline Fenech will serve as physiotherapist, Albert Galea as data analyst, Michael Borg as media officer and Martin Barbara as team manager.
The highly anticipated clash kicks off on Sunday, May 24, at 6pm at Taโ Qali, with Maltese rugby supporters expected to turn out in large numbers to back the national team in one of the biggest matches in the sportโs local history.
