Earlier today at the NATO Summit in Helsingborg, Sweden, US State Secretary Marco Rubio has confirmed that the peace talks which the US was mediating between Ukraine and Russia have collapsed. He denied that the US was taking Russia’s side and that the US was engaged in this diplomatic role because it is one of the only few governments speaking to both Russia and Ukraine simultaneously.
He added that the US has no objection if anyone else wanted to step into the role.
Earlier this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky crashed out of peace talks as Russia kept making its maximalist demands. Ukraine also proposed Turkey as a new mediator.
