- Registered voters: 16,402
- Votes cast: 14,818
- Approximate turnout: 90.34%
The figure marks an increase over the early voting turnout registered during the 2022 General Election, when 8,224 votes were cast from 9,658 registered voters, resulting in a turnout of 85.15%.
Early voting is available to people who will be abroad on election day, hospitalised voters, members of the Electoral Commission, polling staff, police officers, and others involved in the administration of the election.
Highest number of uncollected voting documents registered in 12th District and Gozo
The largest number of uncollected voting documents ahead of the general election has been recorded in the 12th electoral district, which includes St Paulโs Bay, Mellieฤงa and Mฤกarr, followed closely by Gozo, according to figures obtained by MaltaToday.
Data shows that 4,435 voters in the 12th District, equivalent to 16.8% of registered voters in the district, had still not collected their voting document by Friday. In the 13th District, covering Gozo, 4,441 voters or 13.9% of eligible voters had also yet to collect their document.
Sources within the two major political parties attributed the high figures in the 12th District to residents living in rented accommodation who may have changed address without updating their identity card details. In Gozo, many of the uncollected documents reportedly belong to voters registered on the island but residing permanently in Malta.
Overall, 34,309 voters โ around 9.6% of the electorate โ had not yet collected their voting document by Friday. Malta has 356,832 registered voters, with 322,523 already in possession of their document.
The lowest rate of uncollected voting documents was registered in the 4th District, where only 5.9% of voters had yet to collect their card. Labour-leaning districts between the 2nd and 7th districts generally reported lower percentages, averaging around 7.2%.
Meanwhile, higher figures were also recorded in the 9th and 10th districts, which traditionally lean towards the Nationalist Party. The 10th District, including Sliema, St Julianโs and Gลผira, had 3,578 uncollected documents, or 12.9% of voters, while the 9th District recorded 2,800 uncollected documents, representing 10.3% of voters.
Party sources also suggested that these districts include a significant number of residents in rented accommodation, as well as foreign-born citizens who acquired Maltese citizenship but may show less interest in participating in the electoral process.
Voters have until Sunday to collect their voting document from police stations or local council offices. From Monday onwards, documents may only be collected from the Electoral Commissionโs offices at the Naxxar Counting Hall and the Experimental Farm in Xewkija, Gozo.
