The Electoral Commission has announced that voter turnout in the 2026 General Election reached an average of 43.59% across all 13 electoral districts by 2pm on Saturday.
The figures provide an indication of participation levels during election day but do not include ballots cast during the three early voting sessions held prior to today’s poll.
Voter turnout in today’s General Election was significantly higher than at the same stage of the 2022 election, representing an increase of 3.1 percentage points over the 40.5% recorded by the same time during the 2022 General Election.
According to the Commission, the First Electoral District registered the highest turnout at 47.30%, followed by the Eighth District with 46.46% and the Ninth District with 46.02%.
The lowest turnout was recorded in the Twelfth District, where 39.76% of eligible voters had cast their ballot by mid-afternoon.
The largest increase compared to the 2022 election was recorded in the Second District, where turnout was up by 5.1 percentage points.
In fact, every electoral district registered higher turnout levels than those recorded four years ago, indicating a stronger voter response across the country.

The Electoral Commission noted that these percentages reflect only votes cast on election day up to 2pm and exclude votes submitted during the special voting days held earlier this week.
Polling stations remain open until 10pm, after which ballot boxes will be transferred to the Naxxar Counting Hall ahead of the counting process scheduled to begin on Sunday morning.
