Party Leaders vote in uneventful election

Party leaders have voted in what is considered one of the most uneventful general elections in recent Maltese history. Prime Minister Robert Abela called a snap election riding a wave of high-trust ratings with the aim to consolidate power.

Robert Abela voted in Żejtun while Alex Borg voted in Munxar (Gozo). Sandra Gauci voted in Qawra and Arnold Cassola voted in Pembroke.

The Labour Party is currently in process of capturing all state institutions and even challenging the last remnants of the independent press with pledged tougher libel penalties. A new Labour government is expected to renew its campaign to take over the Judiciary.

The Opposition was taken by surprise with an early election and a new party called Momentum is also contesting elections for the first time, further fragmenting the opposition to Labour, which remains strongly united despite rival factions vying for power.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola was also in Malta and casted her vote in her hometown, Sliema.
