A deal between the US government and the Iranian regime is still forthcoming as disagreement looms on control over the Strait of Hormuz. According to the latest reports by Iranian state media, there is no agreement over the Strait of Hormuz as the Iranian state insists upon exerting control over its side of the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz lies between Oman and Iran in their respective waters, but was previously open to all shipping. Iran is now insisting on authority over tolling or charging vessels passing through their respective side of the strait.
The US government disagrees with this position and is insisting on a return to the status quo previous to the war in Iran.
Iranian state media is also reporting that the Iranian negotiating tea are not expecting the US to uphold their side of the deal. Iran’s lead-negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Iran is seizing concessions through missiles and not negotiations. Iran is also demanding the return of up to $12 billion in frozen assets.
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump said that he may approve a deal with Iran soon.
