UPDATED: Iranian State news media is reporting that the Strait of Hormuz will be re-opened and traffic will be restored to pre-war levels. According to the statement:
According to information obtained by Tasnim, if the preliminary memorandum of understanding is finalised and agreed upon, what changes is not the legal or operational status of the Strait of Hormuz, but rather the volume of vessels transiting it. Specifically, the number of ships passing through the strait would be allowed to return to pre-war levels over a period of 30 days.
Both the Islamic regime of Iran and President Donald Trump are declaring to have made major progress in the negotiations between them with an agreement also in place to extend the ceasefire for another sixty days. Despite both sides declaring progress in negotiations, they are still making conflicting demands, making what has been agreed upon so far ambiguous.
Iran is demanding that a peace agreement involves Lebanon but it is also demanding full control over the strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the US government is demanding restoration of the pre-War status qup at the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s denuclearisation.
Iran is also demanding the withdrawal of all US troops in the Persian Gulf and the return of its frozen assets apart from the removal of sanctions on its oil sales.
The flurry of official press announcement from both sides came earlier during the night with oil flushing down below $90 in its immediate reaction.
Some press sources cite Iranian officials saying that President Trump’s announcements are only meant for the US domestic audience, with Iran still insisting on control over the strait.
There has been no new significant vessel movement in the Strait of Hormuz.
