There is broad consensus between political parties over the issue of noise pollution in Malta, except for the Labour Party. Noise pollution has become so excessive in Valletta that it was the main cause prompting residents in Valletta to form their own organisation and protest against the increasing nightly disturbances.
The Labour government dismissed the concerns of Valletta residents and even patronised them by saying that they should be grateful for the economic growth.
Political parties Momentum and ADPD are both pressing for increased enforcement and regulations to curb noise pollution. Nationalist Party MP Rebekah Borg is also protesting against noise pollution in the Rabat area. The Labour Party is the only party ignoring this issue despite prompting its absurd well-being index.
Noise pollution is becoming an increasing issue for residents across Malta due to the booming tourism industry and lax enforcement by the authorities. The government is currently also allowing establishments in Valletta to keep loud music playing during the night, in violation of the government’s own rules.
