The Malta Football Association has confirmed that its Integrity Officer received a joint report from Gลผira United and Valletta FC regarding an alleged attempt to influence the outcome of the FA Trophy Final.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Malta FA said the case was immediately referred to the Executive Police for further investigation.
The allegation concerns a player currently registered with another club and not affiliated with either Gลผira United or Valletta.
The player, who is being treated as a person of interest in the ongoing investigation, has been placed under precautionary suspension from national team selection while inquiries continue.
The Malta FA also confirmed that additional integrity measures have been introduced in order to safeguard the investigation and protect the integrity of the process.
The association did not reveal the identity of the player involved and stated that, given the ongoing nature of the case, no further public comments would be made at this stage.
The Malta FA added that further statements will be issued if necessary as investigations progress.
