Electoral Commission reports 83.64% turnout in Thursday voting session

The Electoral Commission announced that voter turnout during Thursdayโ€™s voting session for the 2026 General Election reached approximately 83.64% by 10pm.

According to figures released by the Commission, 1,143 registered voters were eligible to cast their ballot during Thursdayโ€™s special voting arrangements, with 956 votes ultimately submitted.

The voting session formed part of the final preparations ahead of tomorrowโ€™s General Election, when polling stations across Malta and Gozo will officially open for voting.

Meanwhile, 15,312 voting documents were still uncollected as of Thursday evening, just hours before the country heads to the polls.

The Electoral Commission had earlier urged voters to collect their voting documents before Thursdayโ€™s midnight deadline, after which no further documents could be issued.

Polling stations are set to open tomorrow morning as Malta prepares for another closely watched General Election, with vote counting expected to begin on Sunday at the Naxxar Counting Hall.
