Direct orders in exchange for donations: some documented examples

Amphora Media is documenting all of the registered donations to political parties, along with documenting all of the government’s direct orders. The simultanous publication of both data sets gives the opportunity to pair the direct orders with political donations and there are some obvious examples.

These are also part of the list of the corrupt practices that the Labour Party has engaged itself, along with buying votes. The method by which the government issues direct orders to recieve donations in return has been used repeatedly in Malta and it has also been documented. A noteworthy example were Yorgen Fenech’s donations.

Another major and ongoing example of this exchange between donations and direct orders or political favours is Michael Zammit Tabona’s Fortina Group which was granted public property at very discounted rates in Sliema. The Fortina Group are major donors of the Labour Party.

Here are another two examples that were drawn from Amphora Media’s latest database Open Malta.

These are just two examples and the method is repeated many times over. The Prime Minister’s own personal contractor with whom he is potentially receiving kickbacks in exchange for massive direct orders are the Bonnici Brothers.
