Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa and Attorney-General Viktoria Buttigieg still have to be held accountable for granting total impunity to corrupt Labour Party politicians.
Earlier today, former Traffic Police Sergeant Norman Xuereb was handed a five-year jail term for receiving up to €53,000 in overtime payments. Norman Xuereb was part of a traffic police racket in which overtime payments were fraudulently and falsely declared. Most of the amounts that the officers received through their fraud were less than €5,000, but they have been met with the full force of the law, as one would expect.
Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa and Attorney-General Viktoria Buttigieg applied a totally different standard to Rosianne Cutajar, who defrauded the government of up to €40,000 in payments for a contract with the Institute of Tourism Studies for work she never actually did.
Rosianne Cutajar was about to be charged in court with criminal charges of fraud, corruption and money-laundering, with a full and extensive police investigation completed, before Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa intervened at the eleventh hour and told the investigating police officers not to take the case to court after a two-year investigation had been completed.
Rosianne Cutajar’s fraud was also registered in her parliamentary declarations, where she failed to declare the income.
Interestingly enough, Rosianne Cutajar’s latest declaration shows that in 2025 she has been given yet a new government job with the government entity called The Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility. It may be good to know if she is repeating her fraud or whether she actually did the work this time round.
