A 60-year-old woman from Swieqi lost her life after getting into difficulty while swimming in the waters off Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at around 8:00 p.m., when the police were informed that their assistance was needed on Triq il-Blat l-Abjad in the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq area of Naxxar.
Police officers went to the scene, and initial investigations revealed that the 60-year-old woman had encountered difficulties while swimming. People who were nearby provided first aid and brought her out of the sea.
The victim was then treated by a medical team and taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. Unfortunately, she was certified dead a short time later.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud was informed of the case and opened a magisterial inquiry.
Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
