Earlier today, Matthias Laus was charged in Court over negligent driving that caused the death of the biker Tenjo Kosev. The incident took place on July 26th 2025.
You can read the Ties of Malta Court reporting here which is very revealing. Matthias Laus, who was driving a BMW, killed Tenjo Kosev near the Luxol grounds, after Matthias Laus took an irregular right-turn despite the No-Turn signs. Following the impact, Matthias Laus also drove his car up to 26 metres away from the site of impact.
Yet, Matthias Laus can still end up leaving the Courts scot-free. In 2023, the Labour government changed the law and removed the mandatory prison term over death caused by reckless driving. Labour reformed the law to help a woman, Doreen Camilleri avoid prison after she was found guilty of recklessly killing and elderly person whilst driving. Sentencing is now fully at the discretion of the Courts.
Matthias Laus is still driving a vehicle one year on after he killed a person whilst driving his BMW.
