According to the latest NSO statistics, up to 31% of all vacancies in Malta in the first quarter of this year were posted by the retail industry, catering services and the tourism industry. Another 30% of the vacancies involved administrative and technical roles.
Less than 10% of the vacancies were in the manufacturing industry making them roughly the equivalent amount of vacancies in the construction industry at around 7%. Vacancies in the public sector comprised 5% of all vacancies.
Vacancies remained roughly flat at around 10,022 vacancies. The labour market has expanded yet again this year and employers argue that it is difficult to source employees.
Most vacancies are published by small and medium-sized enterprises with 1–49 employees, and these accounted for 53.4% of all vacancies, while those employing 250 or more employees published 16.8% of the vacancies.
