Earlier this week, Malta’s Ambassador to Ghana, Ronald Micallef, presented his letters of credence to Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama. In his speech, the Ghanaian President praised Malta’s cooperation on education and urged further cooperation with Malta, including on trade.
Malta and Ghana signed an agreement on January 2023 for the mutual recognition of higher-education degrees, diplomas and certificates. Ghana’s foreign ministry says this was one of four instruments signed during Minister Ian Borg’s visit to Accra. There are also agreements between the University of Malta and the University of Ghana over scholarships to Ghanaian students and higher education.
Malta’s Ambassador to Ghana, Ronnie Micallef is a career diplomat with a long experience on African affairs. Ghana is home to a small Maltese community of businessman who are also establishing their companies and operations there.
In a brief statement, Ambassador Micallef quoted Ghana’s founding father Kwame Nkrumah, who led the nation to its independence in 1957.
